I'm about six months late, but it occurs to be that perhaps I should post photos from this Apple Store event, given I've done so for numerous other movies whose premieres never took place or I didn't attend. Movies like "Begin Again" with Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo, "Maze Runner" with most of the cast, and the Indian movie "Haider" with Shahid Kapoor.
Especially since this one was attended by two of the film's stars, including the fairly awesome Andrew Scott, Moriarty from the TV series Sherlock. Here's how it went down:
"You'll forgive me for saying this, but you don't look too intimidating with an unbuttoned shirt and singlet". True.... part of me is disappointed Moriarty isn't wearing a suit, tie, and phone with "Staying Alive" as its ringtone.
Early eye-contact from Faye Marsay. I don't know her from any of the roles she's known for on imdb, and it took me a while to decide that I couldn't tell whether she's the face on the poster for the TV Series "The White Queen"
"What role do I know you from....?"
"The movie's name was 'Pride'. You and I are both in it. We're here to promote it"
"I like that you're showing clips from the movie... but in this day and age aren't you worried about movie piracy?" Moriarty is more ambitious in the crimes he commits.
"That's your worst Benedict Cumberbatch impression yet. I love it."
"And then Andrew was like "I'll flay you alive" but I thought it was misheard lyrics from his ringtone, so that ransom didn't go quite as we wanted. Why are we here again?"
"This movie was very serious. It took place in a serious location during a serious time and a serious administration making changes that had serious consequences. That said, this is a comedy. I think you'll like it."
Every time I'm at an Apple Store event, whether it's standing or sitting, in the middle or on the sides, somebody with a giant semicircular head blocks part of my view. This person with their iPhone does not have that difficulty. Oh, well.
Somewhat unexpectedly, but not inappropriately in view of the movie, one of the attendees asked a question about attitudes to sexuality in the '80s and even today, and actually came out. Gotta admit : pretty good crowd response. Also : high-five from Andrew Scott.
You just got a high-five from Moriarty. I don't care what it's for or what he's wearing, you should check your wrist to see if he's slashed it.
"Your bravery is commendable... and I'm no lawyer but I hope you were listening at the start of this when the guy from Apple said that your likeness and everything you say would belong to Apple in perpetuity". I'm not sure, but I think signed my firstborn's liver over to Apple last time I updated iTunes.
I think somebody just won, and lost, a bet, respectively.
"... I don't know how to follow up on what just happened here in the last half hour. They didn't cover this in journalism school."
"Everything else aside, it would be remiss of me not to remind you that there's a movie these two are in that you should really go and see. Also, you're in an Apple Store. Buy an iPod. I think they still sell those."
"I've got one more high-five up here for anyone who wants to risk it". I'm not sure I have the courage required... I just wish I had a photo of Andrew Scott / Moriarty staring at me murderously...
"Happy?". Terrified. And yes.
So... that was kind of cool. One day I might consider uploading other Apple Store events I've skipped uploading in the past, such as Eli Roth and Lorenza Izzo for "The Green Inferno"; and Simon Pegg and Peter Chelsom for "Hector and the Search for Happiness".
