25 May - The 'Me Before You' European Premiere

May 25th, 2016.

Just one day ago, I poorly(ish) photographed Kate Beckinsale for a premiere under-attended by all but mainly through-traffic on an unclosed-off road outside the Curzon Mayfair (refer the "Love and Friendship" premiere journal). One day later, I was back - same place, different premiere, and this time they closed down the road and everything. And why wouldn't they? The Mother of Dragons herself was expected to attend.

Here's how it went down:

The title "Me Before You" sounds like it could be one of any number of standard Romantic Comedies / Diamond Engagement Ring or Life Insurance ads. However (spoiler) this one came with a protest group. I hadn't noted them yet.

Sam Claflin, of Hunger Games (parts 1, 2, 3a and 3b) fame brought quite the fanclub, however sadly he was not to attend this particular event. This sign was an adequate proxy.

She wasn't part of the premiere proceedings (they were still about half an hour away at this point), but you can't deny the awesomeness of the hat, the glasses, and the pseudomilitary uniform and scarf. I kinda wish I'd thought of it - I was in regulation jeans, t-shirt and leather jacket for this premiere

They were handing out free copies of the book for waiting fans. I declined the kind offer of one - I like my reading to be a bit more challenging (and my movies to be a lot more trivial)

Lily Travers is arguably best known for being in "Kingsman : The Secret Service" a movie I found over-hyped and mean-spirited (and conversely excessively flippant). I did like Deadpool, though.

All of a sudden, I feel like maybe I should give Kingsman : The Secret Service a second chance....

"I'm the second person you've assumed is the author of this book. Nonetheless your excitement at seeing me, even if based on a false pretext, is appreciated" - this in fact is actress Samantha Spiro

Third time's the charm for the usually quite accurate autograph dealers infesting the pen in front of me : THIS is the book's author Jojo Moyes.

And yet nobody's marching in the streets about the imminent start to a FIFTH f**king Michael Bay Transformers movie?? (I actually don't want to be flippant about serious causes, but given I haven't watched the movie, read the book or the synopsis.. or know whether this assertion is even an accurate representation, I can only stay true to the tone of the prior 300 premieres I've covered, and my inclination to post photos of What Goes On At These Premieres)

"Sometimes a movie is just a movie, and not anything more....you know?" and romantic comedies probably even more so. Director Thea Sharrock has arrived, but having watched Batman v Superman about six weeks ago.... I kind of agree generally, but not always.

"I was pretty sure I'd burned the internet to the ground to ensure this photo never got out.. what the hell happened???"

A lot of the crowd were wielding Khaleesi posters and photographs in imminent anticipation of Emilia Clarke's arrival - however I wonder how many knew that Samantha Spiro was also in an episode of Game of Thrones - as Melessa Tarly - in s6 e6, which aired just five days ago.

Emilia Clarke plays Danaerys Targaryen (aka Mother of Dragons, aka Breaker of Chains, aka shouter of "where are my dragons??") in Game of Thrones. She was also in the hideous Terminator Genisys, but then again nobody's perfect.

I've previously photographed Emilia Clarke (albeit not seemingly running excitedly towards me) at last year's GQ Awards. Sadly she wasn't at the premiere of Game of Thrones Season 5 last year.

"Not even ONE of you guys has a box set of the TV Series 'Happy Valley' or 'Ripper Street' for me to sign? That's disappointing" - Matthew Lewis is best known (and may always be best known) for playing the role of Neville Longbottom across the entire Harry Potter saga.

"Is that a sophisticated targeting system you're initialising, or are you really interested in what I've worked on post-Harry Potter?"

"Forget Ab Fab: I was a BOND GIRL, damnit!!!" - indeed, Joanna Lumley played the evocatively named "The English Girl" in On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969)

"Try to imagine you're all alone in a mountain meadow..." - Jenna Coleman is arguably best known for playing The Doctor's Companion across some 39 episodes of Doctor Who, a series I still haven't watched and am unlikely to, regardless of how pretty she, or her dress is. Sorry about that.

"I can't sign that, no matter how stunning I look" Emilia Clarke recently recanted on a clause she'd had put into her Game of Thrones contract saying she would not be required to pose naked on the show. (I have a similar clause in my contract with the world, which includes not wearing shorts in public unless temperatures rise above forty degrees celsius).

"If you haven't yet watched the show, read the books, or played the game.... why not wait for the manga adaptation? Also... why not watch this entirely unrelated movie I'm here to promote?"

"I can't remember my passcode to unlock my phone, and I've used 9 of my 10 attempts before it reformats the device. Do you mind pressing a random sequence? You're famous and I trust you"

"I'll be returning my grandma's curtains to their rightful place as soon as I've finished wearing them". I thing Jenna Coleman is fairly far advanced along the range of 'almost unimaginably prety'.... the dress perhaps slightly less so. And you can trust me. I know fashion.

".... his single raised eye-brow? It's great, isn't it?"

".... his single raised eye-brow? It's great, isn't it?"

And so that, surprisingy, was that. The protesters didn't throw stuff or interrupt the proceedings, Sam Claflin might have found a better place to chill on a Wednesday evening, Emilia Clarke was pretty, Jenna Coleman even more so, I didn't get mugged or accosted by random people, got some okay photos despite arriving at the event fairly late, and have another entry for the 350+size Archive of Movie premieres..

And isn't that all anyone can reasonably ask for on a random Wednesday?

Until next time!
