13 Oct - The (BFI LFF) 'Their Finest' Premiere

October 13th, 2016.

Right now I vaguely recall that this is the 8th day... maybe 9th day of BFI London Film Festival, and as a result of new premieres being confirmed next week I possibly won't be getting a decent amount of sleep for another 5 days... or maybe 6 days or so. Or I could possibly start to not go to premieres on the grounds of "who is forcing me to do this and why?"... but that feels unlikely.

After yesterday's fairly decent Nicole Kidman/ Dev Patel attended "Lion", here's how tonight's premiere went down:

"Their Finest" is a bit of a sentence fragment rather than a movie title in my mind. But then it's all been downhill since "Ain't Them Bodies Saints" back in 2013 as far as I'm concerned.

"What does an ancient vampire / squid pirate captain / magical head of state / planetary designer / rock star / pirate radio station boss have to do to get some free popcorn in this house?" Bill Nighy, who is all of these things and more, is first to arrive.

Bill Nighy is actually one of the few actors who has a track in my iTunes library, owing to his presence on the soundtrack of "Love, Actually"

A tale of two photographers (one left, one right) and one Gemma Arterton.

"Oh, that's right. I was in that movie! By which I mean THIS movie" - Gemma Arterton was also in the James Bond film "Quantum of Solace" (where I photographed her poorly), "The Boat that Rocked" (where I photographed her poorly) and at least one recent(ish) Olivier Awards ceremony (wher I photographed her mostly side-on).

Actress Laura Haddock (who is not in this movie) is married to Actor Sam Claflin (who is in this movie). Among other things, she played Peter Quill's Mother in "Guardians of the Galaxy"- whose premiere she didn't attend, but Luke Skywalker did... which was kind of cool.

"You think I'm pretty? But my husband is right over there... could you wait til he's in earshot?"

I don't know who is, but he looks somehow familiar. (To be fair I also don't know who she is, but she doesn't look familiar)

Sam Claflin is best known for his presence in the second, third and fourth Hunger Games series of movies. Plus I photographed him a few weeks ago (or "May, 2016") at the premiere of "Me Before You"

(above) Highlights of about a second at ten frames per second in the life of Sam Claflin - I'm not sure I know of an actor whose facial expression can change as quickly as his can.

I don't know who this is but the tie is nice, the smile is charming and I feel I should make a vague nod in the direction of atoning for photographing "random pretty girl" at yesterday's BFI LFF premiere of "Lion"

I don't know who this, but I remember feeling pretty crushed when that other old lady threw her necklace into the sea in Titanic (1997) (Edited to add : Screenwriter Gabby Chiappe)

Stephanie Hyam is currently best known for being in Peaky Blinders and a part in the Sherlock episode "The Abominable Bride" (which I managed to catch a day of filming of on the streets of London a few years back)

I don't know who this, but as portrait photography goes it's certainly one of my better, if entirely random efforts. (where was THAT randomness at the premiere of 'Arrival' earlier this week??)

Richard E Grant is also in this movie. His suit is currently rumoured to be headlining for Kanye's next world tour.

So... that was another one for The Archive Of Movie Premieres - and it's certainly one of the best-attended premieres at this BFI London Film Festival where the cast attending was concerned. And although there's a good chance I'll be able to attend not one but TWO premieres tomorrow.... I'm even more excited by the distinct possibility that I might be able to sleep in tomorrow!!

Until Next Time / Tomorrow!
