8 Oct - The BFI LFF 'Last Flag Flying' Premiere

October 8th, 2017.

It was only 24 hours since I was in Leicester Square doing a premiere ("Battle of the Sexes" with Emma Stone and Andrea Riseborough), and less than ten MINUTES (give or take) since I'd left Embankment for the premiere of "On Chesil Beach" with Saoirse Ronan), and here I was.... in Leicester Square, for the premiere of "Last Flag Flying".

Here's how it went down:

Amazingly, we got there pretty much as the event was getting in full swing, and the main draw and attendee from the film, actor Bryan Cranston showed up.

"I feel like me or somebody authorised to sign autographs on my behalf has already signed that picture" - I last (only) photographed Bryan Cranston at the BFI LFF premiere of Ben Affleck's "Argo", back in I-can't-believe-that-was-five-years-ago.

"Sign somewhere! ANYWHERE!!" - Bryan Cranston is best known for being in (and winning four Emmy Awards for) the TV Show 'Breaking Bad', and also got an Oscar nomination for being in the movie 'Trumbo' which I just realise I've also photographed him at the BFI LFF premiere of.

"That's an awesome tin portrait... and I can only think of one reason why I wouldn't sign that" Wuh?? Well, damn. Good reason.

Much like Sam Claflin and Reese Witherspoon, Richard Linklater has a wonderfully expressive face, so I was very glad to photograph him being interviewed from behind/beside the media.

"Glad you're enjoying yourself, Bro" - Richard Linklater has been nominated for FIVE Oscars (Primarily for 'Boyhood (2015)' but also 'Before Sunset (2004)' and 'Before Midnight (2013)'. I'd photographed about 60 percent of his face at the premiere of 'Me & Orson Welles" back in 2009

"Sorry, Bro" - I've moved on, and am now mostly sorry that blonde-haired-interview-lady's hair is quite so broad as it is.

Bryan Cranston has now moved across to the next interviewer, standing in a spot where incidental eye-contact is no longer likely. Still...  a Glorious Leader Of The Revolution shot is a comfort.

Meanwhile, here's blurry Richard Linklater.

I take one more shot from my position, then consider the premiere over. Unless of course there's a chance of me getting a late spot in the last pen near the cinema entrance?

I'm now in the last pen near the cinema entrance, and I can finally take some long shots. And, you know...

The Cranston Approacheth, and the Dealers in then pen I'm in start exhibiting the kind of zombie-esque bloodlust they've come to be known for.

"Of course you realise it's entirely impractical for me to sign for all of you, even if explaining in precise detail why not will take as long as signing for all of you. But I'm comfortable with doing that" (I have it on good authority that the Heisenberg tin did not get signed...)

So... that was two premieres separated by a gap of 12 minutes between the last posted photo of the first premiere in one location, and the first posted photo of the second premiere in the second location. I'd be very impressed by that.... if I was the kind of person who was impressed by that. And it's another premiere for the Archive of Movie Premieres, which gets a rest day tomorrow as I have other (unbelievably even more important) priorities I've committed to.... before I hopefully start this again from Tuesday through all through to next Sunday.

Until next time!

ps. if you ever want to know when I post one of these journals, feel free to follow me on facebook at premieresdotco, or on twitter @berndt2_photo, or, heck, if you're at Leicester Square anytime during London Film Festival (I'm the guy that's not juggling flaming bowling pins or beatboxing to reggae music)
