26 Aug 2018 - The Frightfest 'Await Further Instructions' European Premiere

August 26th, 2018.

And so, for the THIRD time today I managed to take photos at Frightfest - after finishing watching the REMARKABLY good 'The Man Who Killed Hitler And Then The Bigfoot', prior to which I'd photographed that premiere AND the premiere for 'White Chamber', I had a quick tea break, then returned for one last hurrah... and also to maybe buy another 1 or 2 soundtracks from a stall in the cinema... and also to maybe see if they'd refreshed the Free Giveaway DVD Table with a few more titles (which they had!).

And... oh, look! A premiere! What a Coincidence! Here's how it went down:

"No, we don't do bag-checks at Frightfest. The guy in the mask over there just hurts you if you cause trouble. Did I say Hurts? I meant Murders."

"I haven't had a single kid all day recoil in horror at seeing me. I tell ya, Mike. Kids these days are getting HARD." I blame Brexit.

"I can't believe "Personal Shopper" with Kristen Stewart made it to the salestables at Frightfest." I'm both appalled and impressed. It's a pretty decent movie.

The by-now obligatory "cast assembled in front of the paparazzi" shot, taken on a GoPro. I could get used to this : front-row is intimidating, while back-row gives context.

"Couldn't you guys wear name-tags for those of us who aren't afficionados of horror? I'm ... erm... asking for a friend." - lest anyone thing I'm not skilled at candid photography, I think I might have beaten the laws of probability with this photo - eight people, no eye-contact, and nobody is even blinking.

"Please don't imply that this pose is anything but natural and spontaneous". I believe this is Holly Weston and Kris Saddler, and I believe them.

"If you're going outside, could you get me a hamburger from Shake Shack, and a Milkshake from 5 Guys Burgers and Fries? They both hate it, but I stand by my assessment of their respective merits" .

Kris Saddler (far right) provides eye-contact, and I'm not sure what to do. Can I use it to get him to get Holly Weston to look at me, or failing that cheer up Grant Gittins (centre)?

Another one of the photos I like taking that Twitter can't handle the aesthetics of : Holly Weston and Grant Masters on the extremes of the frame, paparazzi in cap looking down at his phone. I like it. It's got subtext, somehow.

"We're just going to stand here in mutual unifying support of each other. You don't even have to photograph us if you don't want."

Take that, Twitter's A.I. Art snob algorithm.

"Who's the fairest of them all? I'll give you a hint" - Neerja Naik (in red) is in this movie.

Holly Weston and a long-range cinematic shot. Interesting side-note, Holly Weston has been in 176 episodes of a TV series called "Hollyoaks", but only 1 movie called "Dementamania"

"It say " EYE HAF KIDNAP'D UR PET" - Awww... I love these promotional Frightfest texts they keep sending me. By the way... have you seen my goldfish? He's been missing since the start of Frightfest."

Sadly... I don't know who this is, or the brand of watch he wears (lift your game, imdb.com!). Help with either would be appreciated, but asked to guess, I'm going with director Johnny Kevorkian.... twitter is ambiguous, but his pictured level of assurance makes it plausible, I think.

"What do I think of the new Nikon fullframe mirrorless camera? Baby... I stand in front of the camera, I'm not one of the nerds who stands behind them!"

"I don't know. Given this is Frightfest, I'd look for the animal's body, cheerfully wagging its tail somewhere in one of the screening rooms....."

" What does the movie's title mean? Well, it's subtext.... for... waiting. For...  instructions. If you know what I mean."

So... that was the end of that. A third premiere in a day, and a journal I had to write up the following day as doing all three in a sitting proved just a little bit too much of a "wait.. who am I doing this for exactly, and do they really care this much?" strain. But as always, it's +1 for the Archive of Premieres, and who knows, perhaps I'll find time to do one more at frightfest on the Monday closing night. Whether so or not,

Until next time!

ps. if you ever want to know when I post one of these journals (and frankly, in this crazy world, why wouldn't you?) feel free to follow me on facebook at premieresdotco, or on twitter at berndt2_photo. You may also feel free to track me down, tell me what a great job I'm doing, and perhaps express confusion as to *why* I do this job I'm doing.
