27 Aug 2018 - The Frightfest 'The Golem' (mini-) World Premere

August 27th, 2018.

The premiere for 'Black Site' had finished only moments earlier (or was by some estimation still going, I just stopped photographing it), when the buildup to the next, slightly more perplexed and confused (I'm talking about myself here) premiere started.

Here's how it.... I think.... went down. Kind of.

We start this journal with the prior premiere. But I don't want you to think I don't care. Look at how much care I put in to ensuring the guy on the laptop was nicely in frame for this shot.

I think these are Phoebe Robinson-Galvin and Alana Wallace, who as stated were part of the prior premiere. But the next premiere hasn't started, and what am I going to do in the meantime... check if they've put out more free DVDs again? I already DID that!

Hey, awesome : they've changed the background!!

"I don't care what's going on behind me... I need to get this shot" . Well, the premiere is happening behind you, but fair enough - get that shot!

This is the assembled cast (?) and / or crew of "The Golem". Incidentally, I'm not a pretentious film snob, but I do recommend the silent German movie "Der Golem : Wie Er In Die Welt Kam (1920)" - free on youtube , because if you ever thought you needed technology to make a pretty darn interesting and clever film, this movie from 103 years ago proves you absolutely DON'T. Use a damn iphone already....

"If you want me to get those girls from the other movie to pose with you in the group shot... that can also be arranged, you know"

This being a short journal, I feel I can go on a tangent : it was weird that of all the assembled cast of the movie, only the directors were interviewed, with the guy on the left declining to. But who is he? And why? (I'm not a journalist - I'm not qualified to ask these questions but I want to know!!)

"Wait... where did everybody go??" Yoav Paz and Doran Paz are the directors of this movie.

Yoav and Doron Paz are brothers, so I guess on-set problems are solved in a brotherly way... (I'm sure the Russos behave similarly when they direct Avengers movies. Although the last time they did that.... <spoiler> only half the population of the galaxy died)

The brothers Yoav are interviewed, but I'm more interested in the fact that the guy in the back on the left is looking at me all "yo, bruv... whachoo doin' ere??" . Fortunately, I like to think the guy with the mullet in front of me, back turned in the photo, will defend my rights. For no reason.

"Actually, I think the guy in the back on the left asks a good question..... let's stay on him for now"

So... with nobody else really to photograph... my mind wanders to the nearby candy'n'drinks counter. And that's where it stayed, until with nothing else to do, I left.

Ooh. But before I forget : quick bonus picture : Director Joseph Khan, photographed just before the start of the premiere for "Await Further Confirmation" - he directed the movie " Bodied ".

Is that.... about it? I guess it is.

I emerge, blinking, into daylight, to find the streets busy with killer clowns and machete-wielding serial killers... and I, for one, can't wait for BFI London Film Festival.

So... that was a short journal, but it was a premiere... nay, a WORLD PREMIERE. And I don't say No to world premieres (unless they're Disney/Marvel World Premieres, where the barbed wire, armed guards and gun turrets are a particularly specific form of invitation to say 'No'). It was a fun FrightFest... even though I was possibly barely welcome, I did buy <checks> five soundtracks from various stalls, bought a ticket to a screening (which I LOVED) and even bought a Pepsi and Popcorn from the Cineworld refreshment bar. I did my part. Not a big part... but a part.

Until next time!

ps. if you ever want to know when I post one of these journals (photographic quality, personal sobriety, accuracy of grammar/spelling, and commitment to accuracy not guaranteed), feel free to follow me on twitter at berndt2_photo, or on facebook at premieresdotco. And/or check out the Archive of Movie premieres... it's got over 500 London event journals, some of which I vaguely remember writing.
