26 Aug 2018 - The Frightfest 'White Chamber' UK Premiere

August 26th, 2018

It's not every day that you get to photograph two premieres in one day (and today.... stand by... I did THREE!), but this was the first time I ever photographed a premiere while holding a Popcorn and Pepsi, in the twenty-ish minute time-gap between the premiere I'd just photographed, and waiting for the screening of that very same event to take place!

Well... it happened today, and here's how it went down:

I took this photo earlier... there was no reason to go outside the Cineworld once inside it with an excuse to stay : the weather was miserable outside and... well... blood pooling on the stairs is fine by me if it's not mine (I'm fairly desensitised to violence these days)

I'd like to think I have a fairly advanced sense for people dressed just well-enough that they're possibly dressed as they are because they're famous (or in the case of frightfest, well-dressed and not with the giant laminated lanyard hanging around their necks). Turns out she's Shauna Macdonald, and she's in this movie.

There's so much to enjoy in this photo - the steely-eyed cartoon from the movie I now know to be "Night of the Trampires"... and perhaps more intriguingly the dude on the left of the photo holding up his laptop, like "I hope this pleases thee, o mighty ba'al..." or something

The dude on the right seems a bit iffy on whether civilians are allowed to be here taking photos, but I am armed with a Popcorn, a Pepsi and a ticket to a movie starting in another <checks watch> twenty five minutes. I'm quite entitled to be here. Or near here, at any rate.

"Is a force choke-hold really necessary? This is Frightfest - why not just threaten me with an axe or chainsaw like a normal person!"

Between you and me, it wasn't until a couple of hours after I got home (after my third premiere, after dinner, and after posing the journal for 'The Man Who Killed Hitler And Then The Bigfoot' ) that I found out what the name of this movie even was! And I still can't decide whether my lack of success in life is because (a) I make such errors, or (b) I admit to such things.

Good news : through a combination of imdb.com and my own resources, I have been able to determine that these are, from left to right, Sharon Maughan, Candis Nergaard, Shauna Macdonald, and the blurry left hand of a human male.

"She's saying we should stand there, and she's saying it in a way that's authoritative enough that I really think we should stand there...."

"You made a great call. That was exactly the right place to stand" It's... a gift.

Photographer-where-to-stand lady might well be the hardest working person at Frightfest, but sitting down lady (who I think did interviews) might be the most chilled.

"we can stand here looking pretty all day... but are you going to stand here looking at us while we do that?"

I'm pretty glad that the dude from the prior picture has moved on, because as at right now (approximately 1:30am, Monday 27th August) I still have no idea who he is. Shauna Macdonald, however, is on imdb, which informs me that not only was she in 'The Descent' and 'The Descent part 2', but she was an unnamed pilot in The Battle of Crait (better known as "Not Hoth") in Star Wars The Last Jedi.

"The unnamed pilot wasn't unnamed. Her name was "Temporary Command Center Resistance Pilot". Because... uh... her parents had very specific dreams for her" . Shauna Macdonald's on-the-spot Star Wars canon feels somehow right, given the writing and logic of the sequel trilogy to date.

Still don't know who he is. Please let me know. Also : brand of watch -anyone have any idea? ..... ... <SOME HOURS LATER... possibly the coolest response to a not-entirely-rhetorical question asked on this website >

"You're asking me to sign black on black in a really dark environment... but okay, let's see how this works out..." - Sharon Maughan is possibly best known for being in "The Bank Job (2008)", which starred Jason Statham but her first Movie/TV credit is 1971 !

"I'm not just gonna sign 'Star Wars' merch.... or 'Descent' merch.... assuming they did 'Descent' Merch?" I'm sure that Lego range is just waiting for the 20th Anniversary to come around.

"Please don't tell Disney. I'm not sure I'm allowed to sign this." - Shauna Macdonald was also in the movie "Filth" (and possibly its premiere ? it's 1:43am... is okay if I don't check?)

"That dude you were posing with earlier... he's in the movie, right? Because I've put myself down to interview him next...." Sharon Maughan and Candis Nergaard elect to stay cryptic on the matter.

"Ummm.... Hi." "Yeah.... Hi" - damnit, I wish I could subtly remove my headphones and lean in to hear where this goes.

"They should totally do a third 'Descent' movie. They could do that 'backwards 'E' is a '3' thing they always do" "But would it be the first 'E' or second 'E'? The fans want to know"

Long range shot. What can I say... I'm a fan of the light aspects of reflective black marble. And I'd better make it to my screening which starts in <checks watch> about five minutes from now. Worth it!

So... that was another premiere for the archive of premieres, and with photography done in the twenty(ish) minute gap between a premiere and a screening I'd bought a ticket to!

I'd say "Until Next Time"... but amazingly there's a THIRD premiere I 'might' have gone to before heading home that day. But it's late (01:51am) on a Sunday as I'm typing this (aka early on a Monday), and though it's a public holiday even I need to get some sleep sometime.

ps. if you ever want to know when I post one of these journals, feel free to follow me on facebook at premieresdotco, or twitter at berndt2_photo. Or just hit me up and tell me I need a new hobby. I've done this for over ten years... as a FAN.... and it occurs to me to ask this only now, just shy of 2am on a Monday morning. Should I have asked it earlier... like 10pm, or in 2012?
