(FLASHBACK) : The 'Fast & Furious' 10th Anniversary RedCarpetMonochrome

Much as I did for “Watchmen (2009)” I felt that the 10th Anniversary of the premiere of “Fast & Furious” deserved a re-edit. Ten year old camera equipment and a lot less experience means I’m struck by a combination of (a) how close I came to taking okay photos, and (b) how much better I’d take those photos today, and (c) how glad I am that I took those photos when I did. Sadly, I never got another chance to photograph Paul Walker, as I wasn’t in the country for the premiere of the 5th Instalment, and I believe the 6th an 7th didn’t have premieres in London (and neither did the 8th, but I was in Berlin at the time).

Anyway, here’s how it looked like ten years ago, when I couldn’t even get onto the carpet:

So… that was (at the time) that. From where I sit ten years later, I think the 5th one is still my favourite, I’m not sure about whether I have faith in the supposedly final 9th and 10th ones… but I can’t deny the fact that the Hobbes & Shaw spinoff could be kind of great.

Until….?

The 2019 BAFTAs : Red Carpet / Monochrome

February 10th, 2019.

As already previously documented here in the commentary-filled, full-length journal, my 2019 Baftas wasn’t great but it was infinitely better than 2018 (where no photos were taken). But much as I love heading home after an event and getting a journal done before I go to bed that night / early the next morning… I do like putting together a commentary-free alternative, monochrome-and-widescreen journal for a large enough event in the following days.

Here’s how this one went down:

So.. that was that. Perhaps it lacked the ‘invisible’ glamour that comes from having the photos ‘set’ on the red carpet in the middle of an event - the backgrounds are a bit more stark and strange (and the presence of car doors distracting), however given the alternative, this wasn’t too bad at all.

Until next time? I… actually can’t and won’t promise that.

Still, it’s one for The Archive and it joins the RedCarpetMonochrome journals for the baftas in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017.
